Fun. But would have preferred a homeboy vs teacher action drama.

I watched this again on Netflix since it first came out. Was enjoyable 90s B-actioner. But i felt the 'marine turns inspirational teacher vs homeboys' stuff more convincing. Tom Berenger did a solid job as a no nonsense teacher, slowly getting through to the kids. I kinda wished that had been the whole story and the action came from Juan and his homeboy gang.

The Ernie Hudson drug smuggling 'twist' and dopey commandos running around at the end got a little silly. I wished it had been a Dangerous Minds with more action story and the drugs were local homeboys. It would have been a bit more believable.

Fun film though. The kind of mid budget fun action cheese they don't make anymore...
