Why did people hate this movie?
When I used to have HBO, this movie came on almost every night. And I watched it almost every night. Being a guy, it's hard to admit liking this film without people thinking you're a perv. True, Demi did look pretty hot when she stripped naked in the flick, but I mainly liked the movie because....Well, because it's just a good, well-written comedy. If you're looking for a skin flick, you'd be pretty disappointed. "Showgirls" was also about strippers and had much better eye candy, but am I gonna go as far as calling it a "good" film? Hell no! Burt Reynolds was hilarious. I think this is probably one of his best roles. Ving Rhames was great in it too, with his deadpan delivery. To top it all off, the film is written and directed by Andrew Bergman, who wrote the screenplay for the classic comedy "The In Laws" (the original version with Peter Falk and Alan Arkin). Personally, I hope this movie develops a significant cult following and eventually a Special Edition DVD gets released.
