Is Sling Blade worth watching?

Now I'm a Hollywood movie buff though have never watched "Sling Blade."
And am not a fan of Billy Bob Thornton at all though have seen some
of his movies in which he played either a leading or supporting role.
I did like "Bandits" and "Armageddon" among his films. So is this
film worth watching for his performance? I have one friend who owns
the DVD though cannot borrow the movie since my friend resides in
Texas. If you all suggest I watch this film then I will rent it
from Netflix.

I was skeptical about it at first as well, but for different reasons than yours. I personally always like Billy Bob Thornton, but nonetheless, from watching this movie, you would barely be able to tell it's him. It's unlike any other role that he played, or at least that I've seen.

Since I first saw the movie, which was about 6 months ago, I've watched it another 7 or 8 times since (It's on Showtime a lot, but it's a movie that I think is worth multiple watches). Although I could see how some people wouldn't like this movie, I'd give it my full recommendation to anyone.

Okay Rammstein and thanks for your recommendation to watch
"Sling Blade." I will rent it from Netflix.

Absolutely! It's one of the greatest Indie Movies of all time.

I agree, it is one of my top indie movies but my favorite indie movie has to be The Terminator.

One of the greatest modern American films. Right up there with Fargo/Shawshank

reply

It is in my top 5 movies of all time list. One of the best movies ever made.

I've seen it umpteen times and every time I'm switching channels and I see it, I stop and watch it to the end. Love how the scenes are filmed. It's like the director puts the camera down on the table and says "action." No need for close ups or incidental music except that haunting theme when Karl goes back to his old shack.

reply

Yes, that is a great piece. My favorite was the guitar solo from this one, when Karl was getting ready to face Doyle.

One of the greatest films of the 90s, or any decade for that matter.

After 20 years, still a classic.
