Were Linda, Vaughn, and Frank aware?
Seems to me that Linda, Vaughn, and Frank were aware of Karl's plan to kill Doyle. They definitely knew he planned on leaving.

shareVaughan I believe knew and did nothing to stop Karl..
shareI've always believed Vaughn thought Karl was going to commit suicide and just didn't know how to handle it. Frank thought he was just going to disappear, move to another town, etc., and Mom probably believed about the same as Frank.
Reach out your hand, if your cup be empty
if your cup is full, may it be again
I think Vaughn knew something was going to happen. I think he knew he was going to confront Doyle, but was not certain how it would end. Doyle could easily have defended himself, and bested Karl had he not been so vane as to believe Karl was not a real threat.
He knew Karl was going to do what he wanted to be able to do himself, but was too cowardly to do.

Linda and Frank are the innocents, they would not be aware of Karl's intentions.
Vaughn, on the other hand, represents the person in all of us, that knows when something not necessarily right/moral is going to go down (or has occurred), or we sense such a thing, but we know in the long run may be the wisest solution so we do not act. Consciously or subconsciously.
Right before he leaves the porch..."Karl?"
I am sure you can think of examples in life where this dilemma occurs.
Ephemeron.
No one was aware. That's why they all, including Doyle himself, kept asking, "Karl?".
