Sling Blade about racism?

I just watched Billy Bob's interview on Inside the Actor Studio. He said Sling Blade was subliminally about racism. Can anyone explain this to me?

reply

I too saw that in part on YouTube but maybe the clip I saw didn't pertain to racism so I can't answer that. I'm sure the interview was just a snippet (it was weeks ago when I saw it). I'd have to chase up the full clip. Interesting question which deserves a reply from anyone more familiar with said interview 

Did Thornton not explain it during the interview?

That's a link to the interview. It's an eight minute clip, the quote I referenced is about half way through.

But in the interview does Thronton explain what he means?

Did you watch the clip?

reply

No, I've been busy.
