Crushed glass in his shoes

There is a trivia entry here that says:

In order to make his walk more awkward and consistent, Billy Bob Thornton placed crushed glass in his shoes.

Does anyone know if that's really true? It sounds a bit dramatic. Wouldn't small stones or something be better?

I read that some actor (might be him as well for all I can remember) put stones in one of his shoes so that he shouldn't forget that his character was limping.

Well, I remember that BBT and Angelina Jolie used to wear vials of each other's blood, so I guess he tends to be a dramatic sort of fellow.

But I don't see anyone walking around shredding the soles of their feet and filling up their shoes with blood for the sake of copying a limp. I'm going with pebbles.

I've read the same thing on other sites but nothing official.

Why didnt he just act?

I think Dustin Hoffman did it in Midnight Cowboy.
