Delroy Lindo's character (possible spoiler)

Did anyone else spend a lot of the movie thinking Lindo would turn out to be part of Sinese's kidnap plot? There was something about his attitude towards the Mullens and their case that I didn't quite find sincere. I'm glad he wasn't in the end, but am curious as to whether we were supposed to suspect him. Perhaps his character was more ambiguous in early drafts and that just carried over into the shooting script?

No I thought the opposite. I believed he was sincere when he said that he'd essentially forget the bribery issues, if they (FBI) could get the son back. I never saw him as being in on the kidnap plot.

So it's win-win for Mel's character - or lose-lose?

Mel Gibson's character was a criminal who deserved prison. Tough about his son being kidnapped, but a glaring example of one law for us, one for them. Hopefully when matey gets out of prison he will blast him to bits. :)

Yeah, I thought so too. His advice was so useless that he was either deeply incompetent or crooked, it's just that in this case he turned out to be incompetent.

The idea that you should give a murderous sociopath a huge sum of money and then simply trust them to behave well is ludicrous

i think DelRoy Lindo's character was awesome in this movie. He was technically savvy and also ran a tight ship. He was faced with a kidnapping scheme orchestrated by a fellow law enforcer - an NYPD detective. Shaker knew how to scramble phone lines and knew the police procedures that would be followed, making the FBI's job impossible. DL's character "Hawkins" did a great supporting role and stole many scenes.
