One of Mel's best performances

It's not just his breakdown moments. It's the range of emotions he goes through. He gets angry, frustrated, annoyed, cold-hearted and hateful, and its all perfectly timed and performed. He wasn't glib or smug when he went on camera to put up the bounty for the kidnappers, he was totally, understandable cold and distant. He wasn't even angry. Look at the sudden fear and discomfort he goes through when Gary reveals himself to be the kidnapper. He's not just approaching the scene like a one-note action star. He's playing a human being, held hostage by the same man he thought was his hero. Finally, when he thought the same man might get away after everything he did, Mel's Tom takes action. He approaches that level of violence like an average person, not some seasoned veteran like Max or Riggs. He's actually experiencing some PTSD in the end.

Gary is amazing in this - i love Jimmy shaker - his 'You want him, you want him?' Bang scene is amazing!!!! The energy between him & mel is off the walls - i love that whole scene.
