I'm glad Norton got nominated for an Academy Award, but I'm not surprised he lost. While rewatching the movie I realized that it need more of Norton acting not just reaction shots of him in the courtroom.

I like this movie, the surprise never fails, and it's a peak into how great Norton can be, but it's overshadowed by being a Richard Gere movie first and foremost, though I think he also did an excellent job.

Well, yeah, the fact that the movie was advertised as a Richard Gere vehicle probably did hurt Norton's chances in the long run. But I think it also hurt Norton that this was his freshman film performance. Sometimes, actors have to put in a few years of work before they get the award.
