They were both great in this. People love to say that Courtney was "just playing herself" which I don't necessarily think is true—she had the stripping/drug problem in common with Althea, but I honestly think Courtney herself is more neurotic. Harrelson was great as well. I don't know why they didn't get nominated. I know Courtney got a Golden Globe nomination, but that was basically just them throwing her a bone I think. I believe having her attached to this picture with her reputation at the time was a factor.
shareIt has more to do with the fact that it was 1997 and the xxx porn theme wasn't acceptable to mainstream America. I can say that their performances are far superior to any of the Oscar winners from the present to the past that I have seen my entire life (36 years old at this time). I think Woody was snubbed big time. His best acting ever.
