Didn't laugh even once.......
Being a fan of the original movie that this was a remake of, I decided to check this out for the first time,(The small towns I live in never have video rental stores-had to use Netflix which only recently joined) And boy was I ever disappointed. I didn't laugh even once. Never got funny enough for that in my opinion. The funniest thing in the movie was the Richard Simmons impersonation and even that wasn't "makes me laugh" funny. One of the problems I had was that it had very little plot--seemed to be simply an excuse for Eddie to just do fart jokes and little if any story. Don't get me wrong--I find toilet humor in movies funny---but making the main story take a backseat to the toilet humor is one of the things that hurt this movie.
Another one of the problems I had with the film was most of the characters. Aside from Sherman Klump none of the characters really had a personality that made them worth liking/hating etc. I could have cared less about any of them.
My biggest complaint with the movie was Eddie's "Buddy Love" .
In the original movie Buddy was a big a-hole...someone you really wanted to deck yet the character is funny as well.
In this remake though Buddy Love is basically just Eddie Murphy on a daily basis.
That's it.
Eddie Murphy basically acts as himself.
There is one thing I liked however....the special effects and the make-up job they did to turn Eddie into "Sherman Klump" and most of the other "Klump family members" was pretty amazing.
Aside from that however this movie was a waste of time, and extremely boring and unfunny.
a real shame too because I usually find most of what Eddie does hilarious and Eddie was a good choice for the main roles of Klump/Love...But he just didn't manage to pull it off.
