Basically, I am talking about the pig-out and farting family diners. And everyone was fat. Yes, it was funny, but I never saw anything as demeaning on Amos 'N' Andy, not even close. Amos 'N' Andy is an historical record of many great black performances, that is no longer available (in decent print quality). It was OK to block the show in the 1950's, but those reasons are gone now that we have a slick talking, intelligent black President.
shareI saw a few episodes on VHS many years ago, and found them funny and not offensive. . There were buffoonish characters, but there were also policemen, lawyers, judges, etc. who were all professional and very well spoken.
I guess the big problem with this show is the era in which it was filmed. I have a feeling if the exact same scripts and characters were used today on a BET sitcom, there wouldn't be a peep heard anywhere.
