Odd

Many things about the movie were odd. One thing would be in the beginning of the movie the chaser says where he is going and the other guy says their expecting snow in that area. In my opinion I doubt an area could go from a forecast of snow to the threat of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes in that order now I could see a threat of severe weather and then snow but not the other way around. At the race you can tell it was cold and during the movie they never mention about it getting warm which if it had been real cold early in the day and warmed up as the day went on they would have discussed it. Basically a warm front would have needed to pass through the area in order for everything to come together for a major severe weather event. Also the guy that broke into programming would most likely have stayed at the station and would probably not be conducting interviews at the disaster center. I have never heard anything about a siren stopping right before the worst of the storm was about to hit.

It was an Anti-Cyclonice movement which was behaving very eradically as opposed to the typical tornado pattern. I'm not in Tornado country so I really don't know the odds of a siren being knocked out before the worst but with a strong twister chances are the sirens could have been knocked out, especially in a small town. But belive it or not Tornadoes can happen in chilly weather. It's uncommon but it is possible. Chances are the weather was a bit on the mild side, probably unusual for Nebraska in the fall. Notice not everyone is wearing heavy cold gear.

This happened years ago mind you.

Well the storm system the story is based on is known for being extremely rare and exhibiting odd traits (3 tornadoes were anti cyclonic for example). As for sirens as someone who's lived her entire life in a twister prone area I can testify that sirens fail OFTEN and usually at the worst times. The entire warning system for tornadoes is very very flawed, but its the best we can do w/ the technology we have.
