Not to deride such a funny movie, but I did notice a plot hole in it: it's interesting that there's an Asian elephant on a North American island.

haha, oh come on :D
Then the whole movie is filled with them;
talking animals, dead skeleton who talks, rat tourists and more.. dont be picky ;)

So to you, talking animals are more realistic than animals living in places they're normally not found?

The elephant was probably another maroonee....someone had a cute baby elephant on their boat, it got to big and they left it on that island. :-) Hey, it makes as much sense as anything else in the movie.
