Jim Carrey
I'm surprised Jim Carrey wasn't in this. It seems tailor made for him. I'm kind of glad, though, because his comedy could be too annoying at times.
shareAs much as I love Jim Carrey, his style of comedy is too outrageous for this film. This movie is zany but it's restrained, Jim Carrey at this time in his career might have gone way overboard on some things. Plus, could you really buy him as a construction foreman.
shareJim Carrey had a streak of genius, but once you've seen some of his movies, it feels like his schtick is repetitive and predictable, and his 'overacting' is not really that interesting in the long run.
One good thing about him is that he is able to 'become'. This means, he can become almost anything, but the downside is, he can become it a bit 'too much' as well, and sometimes it doesn't gel well.
Liar, Liar is the funniest movie ever made besides the old classics, like Airplane! and Naked Gun, but the scenes with the kid are the cringiest Jim Carrey I have ever seen, he seems SO fake in them - the 'claw' is clearly not HIS own idea at all.
The bloopers-reel really shows his comedic genius, as he's able to improvise sublime comedy on the spot.
What I am trying to say is that Jim has his limitations, despite appearing to be 'omnipotent' in comedy, and sometimes it misfires badly.
The movie 'The Cable Guy' is one big mistake, nothing about it is funny, and he is more creepy than anything in that movie, and you still see his 'schtick' appear in its annoying way.
This movie is basically 'stupid nonsense' so Keaton can show off what he can do. I am not particularly impressed, what actor couldn't do all that?
I'm actually rewatching "Liar Liar" at this very moment lol One of my absolute favorite movies of his.
Michael Keaton, in my opinion, is perfect for "Multiplicity" (and in general). He can be the handsome, serious, romantic lead, but this movie really showed his comedic range, I thought.
As much as I love Jim Carrey, this wouldn't have been a good role for him.
