Upon A Repeated Viewing....

...... compared to the schlock coming out of Hollywood today (w. rare exceptions) this is film looks better than ever. Stellar cast, good acting, beautiful cinematography, set/art direction, costuming and solid writing. A solid period piece of film noir. Released today it would probably be a huge box-office hit. What do you think? Better in comparison to todays movies or still not so good?

Well, it's a slow paced movie, so it wouldn't fit with today stupid standarts of "everything must have explosions and gunfights every damn minute of it". I saw it at the cinema and liked it, it's a good noir movie with that "b-movie nuclear themed" feel. The soundtrack is great too. And watch Connelly before the breast surgery.

My only complain is that Madsen and Penn characters dissapear very quickly from the movie.

Most of the acting was very good but for the most part, it just seemed like they bounced from one thing to the next so frequently that it was tough to become invested in the characters. You have to watch it more than once to appreciate each of the roles and that's the big flaw in this movie.

Aside from a few continuity gaffes, the film was well directed. I just had a feeling that many of the missing pieces were left on the cutting room floor and another 10 or 15 minutes of filling in the holes would have gone a long way towards moving this from a "pretty good" movie to an "excellent" movie.

Maybe it was just me but I had about 90% of the plot figured out within the first 15 minutes, so I just spent the rest of the movie waiting for the next Jennifer Connelley appearance...
