It did go to number one, but in a very bad week and with an unimpressive screen average. Shame - I actually think it's one of his better films...

The best of Van Damme is really to most his early movies, not EARLIEST like Black Eagle and certainly not Monaco Forever... LOL but at the time of Kickboxer, Bloodsport, Lionheart, Double Impact. And i generally agree but this movie is pretty good, it got everything for a nice action movie. Its mostly a gangster gunfight movie, but with enough fight scene a la Van Damme to be truly entertaining and a very good scenario. The 1995/1996 period have a nice bunch of Van Damme movies too, but after that what didn't help was that he barely did any martial arts and/or the scenario where very weak. One for exemple i really didn't like was Inferno/Desert Heat, i tough it suffred from both a terrible scenario, characters on crack or i dunno, and hardly any Van Damme trademark martial art, a couple kicks at the end and thats it... But still i think there was some nice movies between 96 or so and Assassasination games, like Until Death that had a nice scenario for exemple. In any case his latest movies where pretty nice, exept Universal Soldie 4... wich i tough was bizarre. Not truly bad, just too weird and not feeling like a Unisol movie

Alice is the worst character of all time, she need to die in the last movie. Chris/Jill are RE !!!

It was a hit in Europe according to the trivia. I think Van Damme type movies were on the wane in the US at that time.

It came out around the same time as when Arnold Schwarzenegger's career started to go down hill after Eraser.
