Mean spirited

Just a mean spirited movie with an agenda. Gratuitous a one gimmick movie that goes on too long. A kid playing with a Toy and taking delight in breaking the Toy. The humor was so smirky, you never knew when a sign of emotion was sincere or just a smug parody of the kind of sincere emotion movies are famous for , you didn't know if the cheesy CGI of the Martians was intentional or just a genuine design flaw.
Was this a parody of 1950 style Sci-fi movies or a parody of a parody. either way something went wrong.

I didn't like the burning cattle at the beginning. Maybe it was just meant to be eerie and ominous, but it could be construed, or misconstrued, as cruelty for entertainment.

The burning cattle was a reference to the trading card set that the movie is based off of. There's a card called 'Burning Cattle' with a picture of... you guessed it, burning cattle.

What you mean "misconstrued as cruelty for entertainment"?

In the context of the movie, it WAS cruelty for the Martians entertainment, and EVERY TIME you go to a horror movie, you're paying to be entertained by cruelty.
