Wrong, I think if it were as serious as Independence Day, it wouldn't be pointless. Only Tim Burton movie I don't have.

It is but most films are. This is certainly more realistic than Independence Day in the sense that if aliens did invade us, I'm convinced this is the way it would happen. With the government being completely hopeless and not having a clue what to do.
