I am reading the book right now and from what I read so far, it is 90% accurate. Many of the quotes and thoughts that are used in the film come straight from the book. They movie leaves out Merril Markoe, who was the brains behind many of Late Night's skits. She is profiled in the book, and her relationship with Letterman ended badly. Of course, you are going to have some artistic license in a film based on a true story.

Many in the principles in the film (including Letterman and Leno) did contribute their thoughts for the book. I reccomend you read it first before you watch the film since it is a page turner.
