The Late Shift 2 is on its way!

Bill Carter's book The War for Late Night: When Leno Went Early and Television Went Crazy is coming in the Fall and is ready for pre-order. This is more or less "The Late Shift II" but for someone reason it's not being called that.

Pre-order here.

But will it be a movie? That seems almost like a foregone conclusion to me. It makes a lot of sense, because there's been a lot more drama in the Leno/Conan fight, I think.

The Leno/Conan fight would make an excellent docu-drama - it was certainly more political - Conan, love him or no, represented fecund creativity while Leno was the face of high commercialism, a materialist Dubya-apologist who refused to fade when the president whom he'd played panegyrist for, departed.

He was certainly cordial with Bush when he had him on "The Tonight Show" recently (this was a good booking after all), but I don't recall Jay Leno doing a lot of apologizing for George W. Bush. All I saw for 8 years was pretty constant and well-deserved mocking of this guy.

Darn, I thought this thread meant that HBO was officially making the "sequel" to the Late Shift with The War for Late Night. I mean it would be great to see Daniel Roebuck and John Michael Higgins reprise their respective roles. And I think Eric Stolz could make a good Conan. I really hope The War for Late Night gets adapted.

Dalton and Craig! Accept NO substitutes!
