One thing I don't understand...

Roy acted surprised when he found out Ishmael was Amish. Yet he goes to that alley every week and Ishmael was close enough to bicycle to get there. Wouldnt Roy be very aware of an Amish community close to a bowling alley he goes to weekly?

I've seen this movie dozens of times over the years and not once, not a fleeting moment, not a single synapse fired and made me even come close to wondering this.

Why would you think about this and then try to understand it.

reply

Why not?

I'm with tbx on this one. You're weird, tk

"Bltch, what you DON'T know about me -- I can just about squeeze into the Grand xxxxing Canyon!"

reply

Hmmm... weird for asking a question? Ok, so if someone asks a question that is beyond your comprehension, they are weird. Sounds logical to me ;\

reply

The surprise isn't necessarily that there's an Amish community nearby, the surprise is that there's an Amish person bowling. It's not something they would normally do.

Also, realistic narrative logic is not really what this movie is about.

reply

I agree and I realize that logic goes out the window, i was just curious thats all. Thanks for a mature response.

I think the point was that Roy is a drunken clueless idiot at this point. The alley guy even mocked him for not figuring it out.

reply

I was going to say the very same thing. Roy was a full blown drunk and so zoned in to his own decrepit world that he was oblivious to anything outside himself and what he did.
