Did anyone else find Cuba Gooding Jr to be annoying in this movie?

This is a wonderful movie that I have seen dozens of times. And I know that Cuba Gooding Jr.'s character is supposed to be this goofy guy who is supposed to annoying on some level. But Cuba Gooding hammed it up to a seriously annoying level. He acted beautifully in scenes which required him to be emotional but was quite grating in many other scenes. This movie is very special to me, but I would have enjoyed it even more if Cuba had been more restrained.

Also I think he was way too under muscled to be a NFL player. A way better casting choice IMO would've been LL Cool J

He could've done it, too. The acting, I mean.

I thought he did a wonderful job of playing the part of the "out of control" ego that some athletes have.

Self confidence is a important part of an athlete and his performance. Losing it could mean the end of a career.

So did I!! I almost turned it off in that scene (I've never seen the movie before) Just saw it for the first time a week ago.
