Isn't "kwan" just another word for "COIN?"

You didn't listen to Rod. "The kwan" is the coin, but it's also the respect of your peers and the love of the fans, which Rod didn't earn until the end of the movie.

Yeah, sometime earlier in the movie "Kwan" is contrasted to "coin". Coin obviously means money, but Kwan means something special aside from money.
