Pinhead trying to kill Merchant, the 200 year old dude and other?'s

I can't understand three main things in the movie.

The first is Jacques, after killing Duc de L'Isle with Angelique (and getting jiggy with Angelique) we see him 200 years later still alive and as youthful as ever albeit looking rather greasy. How may I ask did he live to be 200 years old?

Second, when Pinhead and Angelique confront John Merchant in the building they say he's made a giant portal to hell - like the box but much larger. With this the duo want to open the portal so that it's denizens can pour forth from the void and I presume cause Hell on Earth. So Pinhead holds little Jack and Bobbi hostage (lame-o) so that John will open the portal. When John double crosses them Pinhead kills him but little Jack escapes.

Then we are in the future and now Pinhead and the crew want to immediately kill Dr. Merchant. They know he is the only one than can make a portal big enough so that the don't have to "walk in the shadows" and can try once gain to bring Hell on Earth. Then tell me why are they trying to kill him BEFORE opening this portal they seek?

It seems illogical that they want John Merchant alive for what he can do but want Dr. Paul Merchant dead right off. Pinhead did NOT KNOW Dr. Merchant was setting a trap for them.

The last thing is on the space station, when the cenobite twins split they surround that hapless dude and then it looks like they reattach with the dude in the middle. You can't really see how he dies. What happened to him (the particulars - not the fact that he dies).

you missed obvious points of the movie.. Merchant is telling story about his ancestors

the whole portal/gate thing was rather messy tho, but as far as i remember, it was more unconvincing than illogic

dunno about cenobite victim tho:D -- that part is silly indeed but fun at that

Who really cares why Jacques survived for 200 years? Maybe it does come with having your own demon. It really doesn't have much significance to the movie anyway.
Second, the John Merchant of the 20th century was creating something without knowing it was a gateway to hell. If he finished the work he would've opened a portal which was exactly what Pinhead and Angelique intended to make sure. As for killing John, well I guess Pinhead was pissed after Merchant screwed him over by overloading the computer.
In the future, Merchant knew exactly what he was doing. He created a trap that would send the demons back to hell or kill them. Not too sure what was intended actually. Only that if it worked the demons would be screwed. So there really wasn't much of a choice besides killing Merchant.

There was a line the Duc says something like "He who controls the demon controls the magic" Basically Angelique was bound to the ones who summoned her, the Duc and Jacques. After the Duc was slain Jacques was in full control of the summoned demon and part of the cenobites 'magic' is not aging so he didnt age either.

As for the building = box it was and it wasn't. the original Le' Merchant drawings showed the box as container on the outside (to contain the demons so they couldn't escape) and a matrix of Light inside to destroy them utterly. Pinhead mistook it for being a true box but Angelique new better and was going to try to use it to destroy her rival (Pinhead) so she could remain on earth which she very much enjoys. Pinhead would certainly have taken her back to hell when he was done. The trap didnt work and once Pinhead realized what is truly was he killed John Merchant.

In the future Pinhead knew what the device was for and knew Dr. Merchant was a true threat so he set out to kill him and anyone else that could possibly impliment the Box of Light. They didn't take any of the people to hell, just killed them outright. Business before pleasure, self preservation, what have you.

As for the twin cenobites, their flesh mingles and I guess they then mingled with the soldier but not being one of them was torn asunder as opposed to truly absorbed. It was pretty lame anyways so no biggie on that.

i havent seen this in years but from what i do recall...nobody ages 200yrs or anything like that...its 3 different people in 3 different time periods but they're all related. the guy in the past and the guy in the present are ancestors of the guy in the future, hence why the same actor plays all three and why the movie is called Bloodline.

reply

yes right on the money

they are all different family members of the same bloodline

this movie is great and could of been better without the cuts and all that is, but still good

Actually they refer to Jacques who survives 200 years with Angelique. This wa smade cleare rin the original version.

The originalw as a trilogy anthology, no flashbacks and the first story in the past was all about Angelique and her plans to seduce Lemarchand with a masked ball, zombie-cenobite-gamblers and dmeonic clowns as her minions. In the end she kills De L'Isle but not before he sends her bak to Hell. However, in a coda, Jacques re-summons her up as he servant.

Jump forward 200 years and we get a similar but longer scene to the final cut. Only in the script and work-print Angelique doens't rip him apart. Instead she says how she's kept him young and now he's stood in Hell's way she's free. She snaps her fingers and Jacques ages 200 years a matter of seconds, killing him, of course.

Also, above people mention the plan with Pinhead and Lemachand. AGain, the studio butchered it. In the original Angelique wants John Merchant dead but Pinhead sees that the building could be a gateway. Pinhead wants to open it and Angelique is afraid, she thinks he's dangerous. "Fear is for humans" says Pinhead.

However, after arguing with Pinhead, ANgelique realises the room is not JUST a gateway but ALSO the Elysian Configuration. Hence she starts to seduce John to get him to complete the Elysian whilst Pinhead works to open the gateway.

In the end Angelique has Jack. She doesn't say "open the gateway for me", instead she cries out "The toymakers design, the light's, they're here" hence her paniced look as Pinhead comes. She tells him to make the ELysian Configuration which he does, trapping Pinhead. Pinhead screams out in agony as the Elyisan starts to kill him... but he shoots a chain into the ceiling and pulls himself up out of it. Once up ther ehe send the chains to grab Angelique (seen in the final cut in the wrong place) and drag HER into the Elysian. Angelique cries out "it burns", but then it cuts out as John hasn't finished it. Pinhead then says, in the uncut workprint, "she was right, you are too dangerous. No more Games" and thus kills John. Angelique cries for him to kill the Bloodline but then they're all sent back to Hell.

Thus this also explains why Pinhead simply wants Paul dead and how he knows about the Elysian. Also, in the original, Paul stays on board and fights with Pinhead as the ship goes down and the confrontation takes place in his workshop where we also see ANgelique and Siamese dying.

oh yeah they meant that guy, i thought they were talking about merchant

yes angelique kept him alive for all those years and then when he got in hells way he got killed

damn that would of been a way better ending i say

but the one they showed was an ok ending, a typical ending for a film good guy lives, bad guy dies
