Except Hellworld is a non0canon spin-off in which Hellraiser is real. :p I still weep for Bloodline, the originalk sructure would have been rgeat to split up, each section bewing it's own story with no flashback stuff and starting space. Stupid producers. :(

I'm still not entirely convinced in Hellworld that the Hellraiser series were just a bunch of movies ala Wes Craven's New Nightmare. They ONLY refer to the video game through-out the movie. The characters don't make any references to the films, such as "Hey, Bradley was really great in the movies." Yes, Pinhead's voice is the same in the game- but I'd say that's more poorly thought-out execution than anything. It's established that people know plenty about the box from Hellbound and Deader, it's feasible that someone inspired by this mythos designed a game around it.

Besides, the ending with the box and Pinhead taunting the host that it wasn't all imaginary does indicate that it all fits within the same world as the first seven movies (albeit some inconsistencies, but that's been happening since the films went dtv).

How about a massive online game, meant to be huge. With actual Pinhead voice clips from the film, did someone get a mic up to Pinhead? And the Host refers to people as "Hellraisers" and "Hellseekers" for no reason considering the game is apparently "Hellworld". And they constantly refer to films such as someone taking off the mask to reveal Pinehad (not that ever happened), summonign the Cenobites by opening the Box, they wear Pinhead T-Shirts and buy life-accurate Chatterer masks on ebay. Then stuff like the ghost of Adam saving people and Host appearing as a ghost. new Nightmare still has it "real" as well as fiction, and Hellworld seems to do this as well.

Eh, admittedly I haven't seen him for awhile. As for your points:

With actual Pinhead voice clips from the film, did someone get a mic up to Pinhead?

I agree it would have been better had they not done that.

And the Host refers to people as "Hellraisers" and "Hellseekers" for no reason considering the game is apparently "Hellworld".

I assume that's what the players are called within the game. I doubt they'd call themselves Hellworlders. WoW players don't call themselves World of Warcrafters.

And they constantly refer to films such as someone taking off the mask to reveal Pinehad (not that ever happened),

So how does something that never happened in the previous films count as evidence that they're watching those movies?

summonign the Cenobites by opening the Box,

How did anyone in any of the movies know about summoning cenobites when they sought the box? From Hellbound, the myth of the box seemed pretty well covered, and by Deader it seemed like everyone and their mom knew how to get ahold of these boxes.

they wear Pinhead T-Shirts and buy life-accurate Chatterer masks on ebay.

And this part I'll agree was poor execution on Bota's part. The problem is, Pinhead and Chatters look exactly the same when they do make their real appearance in the film. It's not like in New Nightmare where the demon is molded after Freddy but doesn't share his appearance (recall the boned claw).

As for New Nightmare having it real in the same sense that Hellworld did- no, it's not entirely similar.

In Hellworld, the cenobites existed outside the realm of the game. People playing the game isn't what brought them into existence. Pinhead pretty much makes the point that it wasn't all imaginary.

In New Nightmare, the demon Freddy existed because of the movies.

Also, I don't recall if they ever actually addressed who designed the game.

I chalk a lot of it up to bad writing, really. They were going for the "it's real" angle but at the same time wanted that twist but never bothered to think through how it worked. Not surprising when the whole film was written and prepared in 2 weeks whislt working on Deader just because Dimension wanted 2-for-1.

Though your lats point brings up another major problem... somehow the Host, who is seemingly nothing to do with Hellworld and had to reasearch it, has it so winning something on the game (eh?) gets the invites to HIS party.

Thing is, for the wider mytholgoy, this approach isn't new. There's a Hellraiser short story called "Look, See" that's an alyternative origins for the Chatterer. In it, the Chatterer, a comedian, says CLive Barker made films based on reality, where he "claimed" Chatterer was a child, ie. Hellbound.

And the story in the first voltume of "Clive Barker's Book of the Damned" again has a story where someone whose seen the Hellraiser films is told that they're real, and actually exist. Of course, this is in other media, but it's interesting to note at least, that there does exist this "secondary" storyline with the mythology.
