The notebook...

I'm sorry if this has been brought up before. I just re-watched the movie today for the first time since I was little. I can't believe the things Harriet wrote in her notebook. What sort of ten year old writes "If I were the boy with the purple socks, I'd hang myself" and questions whether or not her best friend will grow up to be a total nut job?

On another note, what kind of ten year old wants to play Volvo dealership?

"I'll be the dealer, and you can be the young couples looking for a sassy yet affordable family vehicle!"

...the point of the movie was to show how cruel and hostile people can be to others behind their backs, and sometimes you can say things that you don't really mean. That is to say, Harriet didn't REALLY want the kid to hang himself , it was an exaggeration (you'd have to be pretty stupid to think she actually did). but apparently that was too complicated for you and went way over your head.
