How is what Harriet wrote in her notebook the truth?

To me they seemed more like her observations. How are notes like "Janie really creeps me out..." a truth? That's obviously an opinion. As much as I love this movie, Harriet just obviously couldn't take what she dished herself. When she peeked at the note that regarded that she stinks, she felt just as bad as her classmates when she made fun of them.

I'm so surprised at how many people are rationalizing Harriet's action in order to make her seem like a cool protagonist, when it was obvious that all of these kids had their flaws. Was Marion awful? Absolutely. Was Harriet awful aswell? Yes.

If Janie creeps her out, then Janie creeps her out ... that's not an opinion that's just her honest feelings. and it's what she truthfully felt or she wouldn't have written it down. you have opinions confused with thoughts. Thoughts are self evident and they stand for themselves. That is to say, each thought is a fact in itself, because someone at some point thought it, and while Harriet may not feel that way anymore, that doesn't change the fact that she still thought it at the time of writing it. Also, the things she wrote in the notebook were only meant for her, she never intended for anyone else to hear them. I'm sure you have never (sarcasm) had mean thoughts about someone else that you didn't want then to hear?

Actually I think she said "Janie really creeps me out sometimes" But that is not important. The important thing, in my opinion, is that it was her personal private notebook and no one else had the right to go through it. It was the world the way she saw it. I do not condone the other kids going through her notebook, but if it wasn't for all of that happening, the kids wouldn't have come together in the end and become better people so it wasn't a bad thing completely. Adults would have talked about how they felt hearing those things. Kids aren't like that....kids lash out. Although it was horrible for the kids to read her private thoughts and holding it against her, but it worked out in the end. All's well that ends well I guess.

I was incorrect. She said something along the lines of "sometimes janie's experiments really creep me out." Either way the rest of my message is still the same lol
