To all the kids of the 90's out their, who are sick to death of seeing our memories of Nickelodeon disappear like they were never there, listen up.Over the past 5-6 years our shows have slowly been taken off the air one by one until their was nothing left but anime *beep* and shows about 13 girls with to many problems. No new nick show could ever replace the old school nick of the 90's. It was the times, when kids would be kids. They wouldnt be dressing like miniature prostitutes and looking up to Vanessa Hudgens and her naked cell phone pictures. We kids of the 90's feel this way because Old School Nick is something we grew up with. We loved those shows. And we will for the rest of our lives. I mean, no new shows could ever replace the good times we had watching All That on Snick, or watching AHHH Real Monsters and Rocko before we went school, or staying up late to watch Doug,Rugrats, and Clarissa. And what about the movies like Harriet the Spy, Good Burger, and Snow Day!! They were great to! I may only be speaking for myself, but those were some of the happiest moments of my life. They could never be replaced by any of this Unfabulous *beep* they air now. Back in the day kid shows were kid shows. I dont remember ever turning on Nick and seeing a bunch of cheap slutty looking girls or a bunch of california pretty boy. We had it made. Their had to be at least one show on Nick that we could watch over and over and never get sick of it. Now they have the same shows on 7 times a day. I mean the only time they put on old Nick shows is like at 6 AM, once a week if we're lucky.I know that these shows were canceled, but would it kill the producers of Nickelodeon to try something different and put some shows on that are actually worth watching?? If these shows were still played in reruns i would definitely watch them. And i know alot of others would too. I don't know anout any of you readers, but i miss the simple days of waking up and watching the Rugrats before they grew up. These were our shows. We grew up with them, we loved them, at times we reallied on them. We are the kids of the 90's, and no new nick shows could EVER replace the fond memories we have of being a kid and being able to sit down and watch some awesome TV. Do a million fans a favor and give us back our memories.
Think of it this way. The shows are maturing as we do. Although these shows have been taken off forever, they are where they belong. If they played our shows over and over again for years and years then we wouldn't miss and cherish them so much. The kids of today have clever shows with good writing and even some musical talent involved. We had shows that reflected who we are. Times change.
The f*u*c*k* they are where they belong!! the trash!!! they belong on the selves of movies stores is where they belong!!!
Clever shows!?!?!?! do you mean to tell me that you think Hannah Montana is a clever show??? I have a 13 year old sister so i know exactly what i am talking about. Every single episode has to do with Miley and her friends going crazy over a boy. Or buying a trampy outfit. Oh and Naked Brothers Band, do u like that to??? they cant sing to save their lives.they are like 9 and they are already making out with people!! whats like "Pretty Baby" stuff!!!
Of course times change, but not always for the better.
I'm just saying that the kids of this generation wouldn't appreciate those old shows which is why they are where they belong, which is in OUR memories and in OUR childhood. And those aren't the shows I was referring to. My 10 year old brother watches House MD, Lost, and Heroes with me. They are clever shows and a lot of kids watch them with their parents. I know Nick has gone down the tube but whatever, it got so rich and powerful that it's just like all the other crap "kids" networks these days. It happens and there's nothing you can do.
Okay yeah I miss the old shows (I was born in '95) But, you don't need to go bashing on Vanessa. She is still a good person. If you don't like her fine but see I HATE iCarly,Drake and Josh(some things are kinda funny),Zoey 101(I enjoyed the 1st and 3rd season), must I go on? I enjoy Unfabulous but I miss All That,The Amanda Show(remember thst show?) I wish Nick still played NORMAL Rugrats not stupid All Grown Up!!! Thanks for letting me ramble.
-Happy Haunting Wish Me monsters! When I said forever....I meant it
I miss old school Nick. Everything was so simple when you're a little kid.
Shows I miss;
-Nick News with Linda Ellerbee -Aaahh!!! Real Monsters -Pinky and the Brain -The Ren & Stimpy Show -Rocko's Modern Life -The original Rugrats -Tiny Toon Adventures -Are You Afraid of the Dark? -All the Double Dare's -All the Figure It Out's -The Adventures of Pete & Pete -The Secret World of Alex Mack -The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo -Kenan & Kel -The original All That -Clarissa Explains It All -Animorphs -Wild and Crazy Kids -Global GUTS -Legends of the Hidden Temple -Garfield and Friends -Beetlejuice -Animaniacs -Doug
There are probably other shows I'm missing in this list..
Some of the shows I listed are actually still on the air.
You may not like some of the shows I listed, but these shows are mainly what I think of when I think of "Old School Nickelodeon".
-Tiffany
P.S. A lot of the shows are on DVD now. Why not save up and buy them all. Get to always have a piece of your childhood that way, even though you'll always have your memories.
I think when the time comes and I ever do have children [10-15 years from now] I'll show them everything from my childhood, everything I loved. Let them be a kid for as long as they can..
agent_deathbat, you are the only person who doesn't see it like us. It's not a matter of all us older generation wanting those 90s Nickelodeon shows back just to reminisce, as you said it being a defining point in our childhood memories, it's ACTUALLY a matter of good scriptwriting and production values. Its popularity would still exist today in the new generation of kids but they don't have a chance to see these shows.
Even shows such as Bill and Ben and the Magic Roundabout (made into a film) etc has been modernized but not really changed because the ideas and stories are good and unique and exciting and will therefore be transcendant over generations. It's not really a case of developing new ideas, as kids are easy to please and aren't demanding of new material and they like repetition. I think that although they cannot just put all the 90s stuff on TV as it's outdated and will cause financial problems as it'll leave lots of producers and screenwriters out of jobs but they should at least consider having a nostaliga marathon and do re-runs of kids shows from the 90s as well as shows from decades before that just to get kids into it and to see their feedback. Obviously nothing like kids quiz shows from the sixties but I mean cartoons or kids programmes where the date it was made does not affect the storyline and messages.
I agree with the majority of the posts on this topic that complain about the quality of 'tween' (Preadolescence, the stage between middle childhood and adolescence in human development, generally in the age range of 8 to 12 years old) programmes that are just being churned out just make the 'Bratz' sales rise and turns girls into wanna be sluts or vain untalented actresses (and we really don't need any more below than mediocre corny young girl actresses)
And NO agent_deathbat, Nickelodeon TV is not maturing with age, as the kids are getting dumber - primarily due to these shows! At least have entertainment with morals etc, not just product placement or fake morals about being popular, fashionable, rich etc (bloody hell you must be biased, do you work for Hannah Montana show or something!?) These dumb down the audience, maybe it's reflecting the current kids audience but this should change or all girls will wanna be actresses or WAG's (footballers wives).
I am bored with all this CGI crap and indeed shows like That's so Raven or Hannah Montana are just bland and commercialised with repetitive storylines and I personally think it's an offense to the kids and doesn't actually teach them anything which a lot of parents are complaining about - particularly as these shows (usually aimed at girls) are coinciding with merchandise and other products such as Bratz, MyScene dolls etc.
I say bring back shows like Sabrina the teenage witch as it's not focused on image, fashion, shallowness etc but focuses on morals, family values and progressing through school and life with the entertainment of being magical. And it's completely story focused and just cos it's set in the 90s doesn't mean it's not relevant today. I think Sabrina should be back on (particularly Season 1-3 cos afterwards when Sabrina went to college and was with that Josh guy the episodes got really boring and the change of setting - an apartment and coffehouse) was trying to be too grown up and the significant change just put off viewers... CHANGE IS BAD!!!!!!!!!!
**Might I add that the first season of Sabrina was released on DVD last year in the UK - I can only assume that it's back by popular demand cos it knows it has an audience.
Although it's financially motivated to create new shows, they are getting worse and worse. People are just not motivated by the content and just aim to please what they think (or what they want) little boys and girls to like due to commercial purposes. This has lowered the standard of kids TV in the 21st century but the kids don't notice as they just watch whatever is on. I think kids should not be watching crap or they will just wanna turn out like Amanda Bynes or Hannah Montana etc and this is not a good example to set them. Talentless actors who are in it for the money, starring in poorly narrativized kids shows (usually US) and who are just doing it to go into mainstream cinema aimed at kids and then eventually be in men's magazines posing semi-nude.
There is currently a petition to bring back 90s Nickelodeon, and if you have Facebook then go onto groups and search for: ' WANT MY 90's NICKELODEON BACK'
There is also this petition which is on the Facebook group page and this is the link (sorry I don't know the HTML to make it clickable)
As Im from the UK I probably watched less (and had less available) programmes to watch on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr (remember 'Face?') but I did particularly enjoy:
Sabrina the teenage witch, Sister Sister, Hey Arnold, Doug, The Wild Thornberries, Jumanji (cartoon), Rugrats, Clarissa Explains it all, The Magic Schoolbus, Are you afraid of the dark?, Aargh Real Monsters!, Kenan and Kel, CatDog, Rocko's modern life, Action League Now! (Remember Melt Man, ThunderGirl, The Flesh, Stinky Diver), Inside out-boy (was a short cartoon), Alvin and the chipmunks, Babar, Casper the friendly ghost, Smurfs, Philbert the frog, Blues Clues, The Junglies, Recess
Sorry buddy/babe, but as was said on a classic Twilight Zone episode, 'we only get one season to a customer'. You had your shows in yourchildhood to watch, enjoy and be nostalgic over-the kids of today have their shows in their childhood happening now to watch. IF a child of today likes older things, that's good by them, but only by them; the rest of the kids should have their own things that reflect their own interests related to their own timegood or bad , NOT YOURS OR MINE.
Somebody else said it well about another pop culture icon of the past still with us in the present, which I will post a quote from here:
Just for kicks... How is Superman “important”? Let alone the “most important fictional character created in the 20th century”? When was the last time Superman’s mythos was used to parallel a real-world struggle? Unlike a character like “Neo” who I think one could make a strong case for being ‘important’. Also, Superman didn’t “save” anyone. He’s never saved a single human being from anything, except his owners from poverty. I’m not saying this fan-film should or should not have been made. That’s irrelevant. It exists. I actually happen to like it quite a bit, but if one were to ask me if I thought it was the best use of one’s creative time (and keep in mind, NO ONE asked me for my opinion on the matter), but I’d have to say absolutely not. This incessant focus on stuff that has already been made leaves less room for new stuff, since time/money/energy are all finite quantities. We cheat the future when we do this. Our kids will need ideas that have greater relevance to them, which means they should be relevant to US now. Superman, while profitable, increasingly represents a world that perhaps never existed but certainly has passed away at this point. People’s desire for a ’savior’ is shifting to a personal desire to save themselves and help others in the process. Our mythology must reflect our own lives and not some corporate fantasy if it is to have real relevance. There is a reason why the first Matrix film became the phenomenon that it was, and it had little to do with 360 degree camera movements. The new Superman film had arguably better effects, yet it failed to find resonance. To sum up my point: I’d argue that when one dies, a person would rather have left the world something original and personal, something that represented their unique view of the world based upon their own experiences and beliefs, rather than just a really really good fan-film.
Something for nostalgia-addicted North Americans like yourself to think about.
BTW, why can't you do something else with your time? You've got a nation at war with two other nations simultaneously (with no chance of success), rising inequality and poverty, and a whole lot of other things that should really be bugging you as an adult-what the *beep* does a kid's network got to do with you now? Why not concentrate your time and energy on these problems rather than on a kids TV network containing shows that have no no relevance to you as an adult? As I said above, why not let the kids of today have something of their own and let the past be the past?

I miss a few PBS shows from the 90's too. Ghostwriter, Kidsongs, Wishbone. They still show Wishbone but it's on the same time as Days Of Our Lives. My mom just HAS to watch this show. Drama sucks!
Oh I so agree with you on this issue. And it really chaps my hide that the kids these days don't even remember shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark, Doug, Rugrats (before Dil was introduced), Rocko, Salute Your Shorts, Hey Dude, and all the other good shows like that. I can understand making room for new shows, but they could at least do what Cartoon Network did. Cartoon Network created Boomerang and put all the old school cartoons from our days on there. Nick Network should at least do the same thing. They would have alot more viewers I'm sure. They have replaced all the classic shows that everybody loved in order to make room for crap. I will at least say that they have a FEW shows that I like. Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, Danny Phantom, and Jimmy Neutron are all good shows, but no matter how good they are, they will NEVER be able to replace those shows from back in the day. I am half tempted to write a petition for the network to at least create another branch specifically for the outdated shows that we all loved from back in the day, just like CN did. I know that I could get enough signatures and support for it to work if they agreed to accept a petition.
Disney should do the same thing too. Years ago, they had during late nights Vault Disney. I think it sucks that they had to remove it to save room for newer crap. They should make Vault Disney a channel like they did with Toon Disney. They say that classics never die but the way TV is pushing for crap like reality TV and removing classic gems, basically they are dying. They're like an endangered specie about to become extinct.
When you look for the bad in humankind, expecting to find it, you surely will. - Abraham Lincoln.
I have a question? Arent we a little too old for Nickelodeon now? Its time to move on, were all in our 20sto30s im sure, why do we care what goes on on a kids network now?
Meh. As far as I'm concerned, the peak of quality Nickelodeon programming occurred between 1981 and 1991. Of course I'm a true oldie who was there from the beginning, having been born before 1984. To me, you mid-1990s-early 2000s kids missed out almost as badly as today's kids.
Real Nickelodeon classics include You Can't Do That on Television, Pinwheel, Danger Mouse, David the Gnome, The Little Prince, Mr. Wizard's World, Mysterious Cities of Gold and the original Double Dare. The only good mid-1990s show was Rocko. Anyway, these are the programs which are really hard to find airing anymore, unlike your '93-'00 shows which I've numerous times encountered reruns of on some digital cable channel or even occasionally the main channel. Thus, you guys don't really have too much room to complain about your "memories being taken away" (especially those of you still in your teens whose childhood memories are still so recent).
I couldnt agree more....but..unfortunately time has changed and in this new shi*tty era/generation today we have to put up with Disney and Nickelodeon constanly shoving Hannah Montanah and HSM down everyones throat!!! I mean even take a look at 90210...The NEW ONE will never be as good as the original one!!But back to Disney and Nickelodeon, they both used to be good...but started going downhill around 2004!!!And i even stopped watching years ago.....but as of right now all Disney and Nickolodeon care about is marketing merchandise and making more money!!! They could care less about us,which is the sad thing. But mainly im just glad that i grew up in a generation where everything was fun and entertaining....im 15 years old now and its been such a loong time since i've watched any old shows from the 90's...(i feel badd..lol) I just feel sorry for all the people/kids today who have to put up with the constant crap of movies/tv shows!!!!*ahem..and celebritys*
Actually I think the kids shows from our generation were more mature. If you think about some of the language that was allowed (some shows back then were allowed to say crap and damn where today you can't really say stuff like that) or topic from various episodes where religion was discussed or death. For shows from those times there were a wide variety of characters from different cultural backgrounds too...just look at "Hey Arnold!". While we were entertained.. we were actually learning something. We had shows like Ren and Stimpy and Looney Toons which were much more violent than today's cartoons. We also had all those awesome game shows... who doesn't remember Legends of the Hidden Temple or Double Dare or Figure It Out. These were all entertaining and kids at home could be involved and try to guess the answers. There's nothing like these shows on Nick anymore.
While nick and disney aim at the teenage demographic.. these shows are viewed by younger kids who are still in elementary school, which is probably one of the reasons kids today are growing up so fast. 10 year olds should be trying to mimic drake who juggles like five girlfriends at once or be worried about boys like Hannah Montana.
Also, the teen shows (not on nick or disney though) during our childhood were more mature. Think about shows today like The Hills and The OC compared to Boy Meets World or 7th Heaven. We weren't watching shows about prissy teenagers lives, but lives of teenagers going to regular high schools... real relationships and real family situations.
I'm definitely glad I was born when I was and grew up during the 90's... if not I certainly would have missed out on an amazing childhood.
