Soundtrack?
Does anyone know if a soundtrack was made available?
shareYou can find links where to buy the soundtrack here:

just FYI, there are a few versions of "god give me strength" - ELVIS COSTELLO wrote it, and also recorded it....i think BETTE MIDLER recorded it as well.....
shareYeah. I really would have liked it if the soundtrack had included the version of "Denise" singing it. I really like that rendition of it.
"Obviously Mr. Ringo is an Educated man. Now I really hate him." Doc Holiday, TOMBSTONE
I could not find Denise's version either so I had to get creative. Most computer software such as Media Player and others allow you to make a mp3 file out of anything playing through your computers soundcard so I hooked up the audio out of my dvd player to the sound in on my soundcard. Brought up the software and presto chango I had the file.
I would also like to have the version where she is in the studio with the orchestra but when I think of it the best version is her with just the piano.
A friend of mine found it years ago for me on what I believe was either Audio Galaxy or Napster at that time, anyway, it was an MP3 of the scene where she auditions it for Jay at their first meeting, but better to have that one than none at all in my opinion.
shareI have to admit this, but the only song I like on this album is "Groovin On You," by Juned. Is there any site where you can download this one, because none of the sites people have told me about have it.

I also love this tune. My band plays a punk version of it, faster and with more attitude. This song rocks!
I love the entire soundtrack!

It's such a shame that the Kristen Vigard version is left off the CD. Elvis Costello's version is certainly inferior (as is Alison Moyet's recent version). God Give Me Strength is a great, great song. Everyone should hear it.
I love A Boat On The Sea, and the brilliant Secret Love (which has me singing along at top volume during the film, and on CD).
I saw the film at the cinema when it was first released: God Give Me Strength got a round of applause when it finished!

I agree with you, ebtgboy!
shareI did not know that. I recently saw Grace of my Heart twice in one weekend, after years of not seeing it. I always remembered the songs and planned to get the soundtrack until reading all of these messages from you guys. How can they not put that version"( the best version) of "God Give Me Strength" on the soundtrack? If anyone has a easy, quick, for sure way to get this song on an I-Pod, please let this guy know. It's so cool to see that I 'm not the only one who loves this movie annd the songs also.
shareHow cool, I can't believe I'm not the only one who ever hooked up their DVD audio-out to their soundcard in order to have Denise's version of the song! Maybe the one virginsuicide77's friend found online was mine even, I used to have it shared on Napster years ago. (Have since lost it to a hard drive crash.)
I've always liked Elvis Costello and all, and I know he wrote it, but that was my one disappointment with the soundtrack too, that her version wasn't on it. That scene in the movie is fantastic, especially, I think, when she gets to "...see I'm only human, I want him to HURT" it's a powerful moment.
And now, I'm stoked to (9 years later) read that Kristen Vigard's version was released on an album, thanks for the info!
PS I'd include the movie on my all-time favorites list (even though I was a bit frustrated by the unevenness between the first and second halves, but that's a whole nother discussion, but anyway, when it did right what it did right, it was outstanding) but I hadn't watched it for a year or two now. But I just spotted it on the WE channel and watched a few minutes, and decided to pull out the DVD to watch the whole thing again.
"That's great. They could use a hit. The last 3 songs we wrote for them were banned from the radio."
wow... just wanted to say thanks for the info too!! can't wait to get a copy - finally after ten years! when i was sixteen i made a copy of denise's version with a tape recorder, off a vhs tape. lol. it was a horrible copy but despite the fizz and pops it was still beautiful. i listened to it over...and over
(edit: btw, just did a search for the heart beats compilation, found it but was listed on amazon for $28.00... but looks like kristen vigard has an album available at http://cdbaby.com/cd/kristenvigard for $10.00 that includes god give me strength. just thought i'd share.
It's on LimeWire!!...I've heard *ahem*
In the end...it doesn't even matter

Thank you! I have been looking for this song for years! It is now safe and sound in my iPod!
shareHey thanks Hybrid theorist if your still out there somewhere. I have been looking for Kristen Vigards version of "God give me strength" for years.
Does anybody know if you can get the original version of "Man from Mars" sung and written by Joni Mitchell. I know that it was on the first batch of soundtracks released but was then withdrawn. I've heard its extremely difficult to find.
I've got the version on God, Loves & Angels (from Emusic), but beware, it's not the version from the film, but a more recent recording, and it's nowhere near as good. Unless my ears deceive me, she's taken it down a semitone or more, and it doesn't have the heart-stopping impact that the film version has. Kirsten Vigard's voice is just gorgeous in the film - an album full of that would make me a happy man, but I think the film is the best bet. She did a horrible solo album in the late 80s, I think, while God Loves & Angels is just very disappointing.
Oh, and you can get Joni Mitchell's version of Man from mars on her album Taming The Tiger - although I prefer Kirsten's version, even though I'm a huge Joni fan.
Caveat: The version found on "Taming The Tiger" is not the one that was accidentally pressed on the soundtrack. Except for Joni's lead vocal, that one is identical to what Kristen Vigard laid down; it even has Kristen's background vocal intact. Although they used the "Denise" version in that scene, there was also some talk of having Joni's version play over the credits. A shame that they didn't manage to do that - she might have gotten an Oscar nom. All this for a song she wrote about her missing cat! Goes to show how far genius travels...

Matt Dillon is terrific in that scene, as well. He did a great job of showing Jay learning about Denise during that song; realizing how badly hurt she was; and spotting how talented she really was.
Be forwarned, Kristen Vigard doesn't sing God Give Me Strength on the cd. I did, however, find a recording of her singing this song on emusic.com and on amazon.com. Then, I simply relabeled the information for that track to correspond to Grace of My Heart and now it's part of the original soundtrack. :)
