Kelly Porter/Lesley Gore

I am a huge Lesley Gore fan, and I am interested to see this movie, because I know that the charachter played by Bridget Fonda is based on Lesley. I was just wondering how long she is in the movie for, what happens to her and is it worth getting just to check her out or is she barely in it?

reply

She is only in one scene and while she is singing her song, there are people talking. I LOVE this movie and I own the DVD. I would suggest renting it and if you enjoy it then you can always purchase it.

reply

I'd say she's only in it for about 2 minutes or so.

reply

I'd say more like 10 minutes.

But it's a great scene. I love the way she looks at her "friend" when she's singing the song, "forbidden love" I think

reply

It's "My secret love".

Things are vague enough throughout the movie that you can imagine different characters being based on different people. I thought maybe Lesley Gore, but then she talked about her "TV Show" and that made me think it was supposed to be Patty Duke, who put out some lame, over-produced records in the mid-60s...

Porter is a combination of Lesley Gore (a closeted "bubble-gum" singer) and Patty Duke (the TV show, bad albums, and the "dating teen heartthrobs for PR" stuff.)

reply

The only difference is that Patty Duke is not gay and is happily married to Michael Pierce, he work as a technical advisor for a TV movie she was in that was based on real incident. It was a good movie.

Lesley Gore WROTE the song "Kelly" sings in the movie! (I don't recall if she sang it, however.)

reply

I figured right away that Kelly is a version of Lesley--and I just found out today that Lesley wrote "My Secret Love." Unfortunately Lesley passed away today, R.I.P. to a great talent & kind humanitarian.

God Bless Lesley-this was the film I wanted to see when I heard....
