What happened to the letters?

So earlier today, I saw the beginning of this movie for the first time. Ever since this movie came out, I've seen it many, many times on TV, but I always came in sometime after Cynthia's suicide, and Brenda, Annie and Elise getting back together. But watching the beginning for the first time ever, it made me confused that the women seem to never get Cynthia's letter for each of them. Watching it as an adult, I knew what the letters were (and doing a little digging on the message board, I found a post confirming it).... But it seems like after Cynthia gives the three letters to her maid to mail off, they're never brought up again. Honestly, I was expecting the characters to find out about Cynthia's suicide from the letters, but they don't. Then I thought, well, maybe they'll read the letters later in the film or something, but that didn't happen either.

So my question is, did the scriptwriter just forget about the letters, and never added a scene where they come up again? Were they always there, but I just missed the scene? Or was a letter-reading scene just cut from the movie for time?

You might have seen an edited version but the theatrical an dvd cuts contain the scene where they all receive the letters. It is a crucial scene in fact that brings them together and encourages them to do everything that follows in Cynthia's name.

Incredibly late reply, but it made me wonder just how slow the mail runs in NYC. All 4 women were still in the city, but they didn't receive the letters until at least 1-2 days after Cynthia's funeral.
