Shouldn't David's age have been an issue right off the bat?

Why didn't Mr. Walker nip it in the bud right away? Nicole was 16 and David was clearly in his 20s.

As much as I love this film, I wonder that myself....every time I watch it. 

Mr. Walker even comments on it to the police, on the phone, yet other than David not being in school with Nicole...he just forgets about it!

But then, remember this is a man (in 1996 no less) who has reinforced doors & windows....yet does not own a gun. 

I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus.
Didn't he discover America?
