If this is true, it was so subtle NOBODY picked up on it:
- He never once objects to David (at first) or seems disappointed Nicole is with him (until he gets violent)
- He never once makes the slightest move (or anything that could be construed as a move) on Nicole.

So either he was gay (and in the closet, back then it wasn't as accepted as now) or really not interested in either girl (they're pretty but not supermodel pretty, and for all we know they're childhood friends).

It does happen, and the "good friend waiting for his turn" is always:
- knocking down any boyfriend prospects (in one way or another, at some point)
- being "available" for pretty much anything (always hanging around nearby)
- clearly a loser (either unattractive or too shy/lacking confidence)

Gary didn't have any of these traits.

I think he wanted David to pop his cherry in the woods instead of the way it went down.

I never got the sense Gary was gay. Just a shy (maybe childhood) friend of Nicole & Margo.
In 1995 everything hadn't become *obsessed* with everyone 'being gay' like movies are today.

Besides, if Gary was gay why didn't Nicole ever mention that to David?
Why would Gary be so threatening to David?

Gary surely would have at least said that to David when he attacked him, to try to diffuse his anger as well.
