Woodchipper scene

The Woodchipper scene really underlines how unstable these people are.

Putting a person in a woodchipper serves absolutely no practical purpose. It's hard to do a more loud and high visible disposal of a body and it won't even prevent them from identifying the victim. On top of that a normal person would probably want to avoid something as grizzly as that, but again, the whole point is that he isn't.

He would've been better served wrapping up the bodies and burying them in the forest out back. It would take time for them to find them. If there's a woodchipper there's most likely other tools he can use to dig in the hard soil as well.

Yup. A lot of more sensible ideas come to mind. But...

In 1986, it was done and, for reasons you suggest, it didn't work.

My idea for burying the victims was specifically for this guy's scenario. He just needed enough time to put some distance between himself and the murders.

With the Crafts murder it was premeditated and she needed to stay hidden, which makes it even more stupid. It's a little scary that the guy managed to get a flight license.

If I had to get away with a premeditated murder I think I'd:
-Use these tools: a base for dissolving, an acid for neutralizing, steel barrel, steel mesh, syringe of 'not relevant here'.
-Buy none of the things I need in places with cameras and only with cash.
-Make sure I had an alibi.(like not researching any of this on my own devices)
-Make sure the victim didn't bleed/struggle.(syringe in sleep for an example)
-Dissolve the body with the base
-Neutralize the base with the acid.
-Fish out anything identifiable and deal with the mesh.
-Flush the sludge down the toilet little by little.
-Melt down the steel drum and mesh in my arc furnace.

That got a little detailed... Sorry about that. I refrained from going into complete detail since there are nutjobs everywhere and I'm not trying to give them ideas. It won't work without the details I left out. In fact they'll probably blow themselves up if they try.

Just trying to contrast the "look at me, WOODCHIPPER" story.

So, should we report this to the authorities or..?

Is this post your alibi?

reply

Alibies are 2nd rate. They'd mean you were looked at in the first place.

I didn't find the woodchipper scene that alarming. I admit if such a thing happened in real life it would be terrifying. But in the movie there's just a bunch of blood all over the snow. Now if there were organs and entrails of Carl all over the place and you saw his decapitated head rotting nearby that'd be freaky but it's just a bunch of blood all over the place.

That happened in Connecticut once. There were enough bits and pieces to get a conviction, though.

It was jokingly supposed to be "based on a true story ". The woodchipper part was true, from the above-mentioned murder in Connecticut.

Aside from the woodchipper itself, I'm left wondering how Marge got Grimsrud into the backseat of her car.

She wounded him in the leg. I mean, did she hold him at gunpoint as he limped through the snow to her car while handcuffed?

Obviously, what would have happened if this occurred in real life is that she would have waited for backup and paramedics to arrive and deal with the guy.

But, it's a movie . . . .
