Just watched it today. While well made it just didnt engage me really.
So im really curious to the people who loved this movie what made you love the movie and what are you thoughtsn I am genuinely interested to kniw why.

share"Great" is in the eye of the beholder. I value this movie highly, it is one of my favorites and I re-watch it at least yearly. For me it is the juxtaposition of good, simple people (Marge and her family and friends plus Jerry's wife) and people who are basically rotten to the core (Jerry, the kidnappers, and to a lesser extent the FIL). They are on opposite poles of the spectrum of humanity. They would never interact were it not for the crimes. Then, when it is all over, good prevails over evil, something most audiences want to see.
In addition I like the quirky style, the exaggerated characters, especially Marge. It all adds to the viewing pleasure. I own the DVD, I re-watch about yearly. For me it never gets old.

shareI just finished watching it. It's my 3rd time. I agree with TxMike. A lot of people say the Coen Brothers make fun of Minnesotans but I think it should be noted that Marge does some really good police work and that final scene just shows how she can really separate her work from every day life. The quirkiness of the film makes it more realistic in my opinion.
shareI guess I didn't find it very interesting because I really don't care for quirkiness and quirky characters. "Fargo" seemed like an American version of all those U.K., European, and Australian movies about cute quirky people in a cute quirky village. I just don't like that genre.

I liked it a lot better the 2nd and 3rd viewing. It's a moral story. Enjoy the simple things in life, greed corrupts and destroys.
shareCoen Brother movies always seem better on repeated viewings to me. Fargo, The Big Lebowski, etc. all seemed just okay to average when I first saw them and the second viewing on, I really got into these movies. I'm not sure what it is about them.
share It had really great buildup. But the ending was a downer. Perhaps thats what your not liking about the film.

I gree the ending was stronger but the emotional investment every one had on the woman being rescued is what leads people to rate the film as "meh". It reminds me of "No country for old men" It had a great build up but felt like it literally just fizzled at the end. IE its true to the narrative and tone of the film but seems anticlimactic considering how tense it was right up untill the failure break down. We don't even see the main protagonist die in the film just like in this film we are interduced to her death sloly when the cop approaches the man working the wood chiper. Its like wait is she really dead is there gonna be a reveal later that says thats the other body going through the woodchipper or well never mind.
