In Cairo, Almassy is seen writing December 1938 in a diary, shortly before Maddox announces that all expeditions will end by May (1939). If this is when he left the airplane hidden in the desert, how much time elapses before Colin Firth and KST are flying in to pick him up and crash?
By the time he hikes from the cave, gets picked up by the brits, then escapes from the train (headed to Benghazi,of all places), the germans are in the desert. Rommel and the DAK didn't make an appearance until February 1941.
