After almost 20 years of putting it off, I've finally watched this movie

I was in college, really getting into independent and foreign films. I just watched Shine and loved it. I was hoping to watch the English Patient, especially after it won a lot of Oscars, but I just never got around to it. I had several starts, but it seemed like such a heavy and dry movie, that it felt like taking a hard class or going to church. So, I kept putting the film off.

Anyways, after nearly 20 years, I finally sat through the whole thing--albeit in pieces. I would watch 30 minutes of it, then get frustrated and bored. Put it off again, pick it up again. I kept asking myself, "What's the point of the movie??" I made it 2/3's of the way through the movie about 2 months ago, and I almost gave up on it. Finally, today, I decided to finish it. And, wow, I'm glad I did.

The ending made the movie worth it. Such a tragic ending, and I kept feeling my emotions well up, my heart strings tugged at. I then realized why this won so many Oscars. I know a lot of people don't seem to think this movie is that great, and I can definitely see their points. But, the ending did it for me. First film I've ever seen that went from complete bore-fest to epic story telling in the span of just half an hour.

I just wanted to share this story, because the English Patient is the only movie I've kept putting off for so long, and it was definitely a bucket item list for me. Thanks for reading.

I'm glad that you finally liked this movie and wow your story with this is a mix between me and two films.

First is with Gone with The wind since I herad a long time how great it was but I was putting it on hold because it was a 4 hours movie but I loved fair the very first time and taht you had to re watch it finally appreciate it well it happened to me with Erin Brockovitch.

There are films that we Watch too young and don't apprec it like we should since we are Bitt more close minded on only light movies but when we grow older is when we finally can appreciate a movie that we used to hate.
Now Erin Brockovitch is a mobie that I can watch every time is on tv and it has some very funny moments.

And we all love movies fir very different reasons and like with you was the ending we all have a specific factor or moment which made. A movie for us. Don't you think ?

I think this is one of the really great, passionately romantic dramas, besides being such an obviously well made film technically. It's a wonderful legacy for all concerned, especially Saul Zaentz and Anthony Minghella.🐭
