Is it true that this is one of the most overrated, boring movie ever?
I haven't seen it yet but all I keep reading are those words? Well, is it?

shareMany people will say yes. Me personally, no as I think it's quite good. It's a slower paced film to be sure, but if one enjoys the likes of films such as Lawrence of Arabia or Doctor Zhivago (which this feels similar too in spirit, tone, pace, etc) than I think one would at least get something out of it. Though naturally that's just in my own opinion.
shareI loved The English Patient, but I have to say that I never made it through Lawrence of Arabia or Doctor Zhivago.
shareI don't think it is, actually it's my all time favorite movie and my all time favorite Romance but like the poster above me said it's more slow peace and quite long but if you like a good romance this could be your movie
shareNo.
shareDefinitely over-rated. It is a 5/10 at best, and you have to be in mood for a chick flick to enjoy it even then.
shareIt's not overrated. I think Kramer vs Kramer is overrated, this movie is terrific. Lawrence of Arabia went for 216 minutes and Doctor Zhivago went for 197 minutes. The English Patient by comparison went for 162 mins, pretty long movie but nothing compared to the two previous epics mentioned in terms of length.
shareIts not the lenght, genius, its never about the lenght
shareI just seen this and yes. I really tried to get into it but I really found it very boring.
shareIt completely depends on what kind of films you enjoy. If you are someone who tends to get drawn out and lose interest easily; then it's likely that The English Patient will bore you to death. It's a film that you need to pay attention, keep your concentration with the dialogues, charcters, the music and surroundings, try to "lose" yourself in the world it creates. You will never have a joy unless you "feel" The English Patient.
But if you do give it a chance and pay attention to it, The English Patient will be an unforgettable experience. It didn't win 9 Oscars for nothing, The English Patient is easily one of the best examples how artisticly and technically impressive a film can be.
It certainly builds everything in a slow paced fashion for 2,5 hours; but the last 30 minutes is where the story actually pays off and the ending is incredible.
Yes it is. Boring, girly romance movie. It's right up there with Shakespeare in Love and Titanic as the least deserving "best picture" Oscar winner ever.
shareYes

My sentiments exactly. The performances and dramatic quality of The English Patient makes it an absorbing film.
I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not.
