great film

Fiennes is brilliant in this. Anyone who hates this film is just an idiot.

It's my favorite film of all time and ofCourse my favorite romance as well.

Also agree that Ralph Fiennes was great, he should have won the best actor Oscar for this part

It's sheer brilliance! The film doesn't get b etter than this. And never before or since have I come across the two more distant romantic lead characters who pull you in so close to their story, as if by magic spell. Every aspect of this film is a perfection, including performances. Binoche deserved her Oscar and then some, while I would have awarded one to both Fiennes and Scott Thomas, for their exemplary, subtle performances that communicate volumes with so very few lines. Minghella, the master is still very much missed with his brilliant 'trilogy' of sorts with The English Patient, The Talented Mr. Ripley and Cold Mountain!

He passed too quickly. I agree with the OP about Fiennes and KST was perfect as Katherine in what IMO is her best English speaking role. Juliette Binoche ... I can't say anything else that hasn't previously been accorded to her about her playing of Hana. She is wonderful. Then of course you have the magnificently photographed North African landscapes captured in the dream-like aerial sequences, as well as the dramatic sandstorm. This is a film whose sense of importance demands critical recognition.šŸ

Any story that can make two very wicked people at the centre of the story interesting enough to journey to the end with them is doing something right.

One of the rare examples of how bookending* a story this way can work well. If we had to spend nearly 3 hours wondering if these bastards were going to get away with this, then we would have had zero sympathy for them.

* I realise this is not strictly speaking bookending, but the time jumping here serves the same function.
