Odd scene...Katharine hitting her head.

The scene under the bleachers has always has struck me as odd. RF and KST characters are breaking up and at the end of the scene Katharine turns to leave and hits her head on a metal support beam. End of scene. It is so odd I wonder if that was scripted or if the actress KST actually hit her head on accident and the director left it in the film?

I've always though this was included to show that Almasy is full of it when he feigns not caring ("I'm not missing you yet.") After this, she hits her head and he quickly gets up, immediately showing how much he really cares.

I've always wondered about that, too. I don't believe it was an accident, though, because it is in the book.

She was so distracted after telling the love of her life that their relationship was over that she walked into the beam. Was that really too hard for you to figure out?

It's really real to life. Anyone who's ever been in a tense situation like that knows you try to play it all cool and then the hidden stress results in something calamitous happening - although usually you just get tongue-tied, or try to exit a door the wrong way.
If you like this film, check out 'Cinema Paradiso' (Director's Cut, 173min, NOT the 124min butchered version!). Best foreign language film ever...unless you speak Italian. Still great though, despite having to stare at the bottom of the screen reading subtitles for 3hrs.

I don't see how this 'detail' propels the action or puts flesh on the character.

That you have people asking the question and being put 'out of the moment' by it tells you it doesn't work.
