Best scene

Almasy carrying Katherine out of the cave, crying with wind blowing against him and the music flowing, trully the heart and most powerful scene in the whole film. I cry every time.

I also cry every time I see this movie, in particular this scene. But the best scene (to me) is the Christmas party, the soldiers singing outside and Almasy and Catherine together, unbelievable chemistry.

I don't remember hearing the music as he was carrying her away from the plane wreckage, but when she says to him "I have always loved you"...those words got me.

reply

And the way he breaks down after hearing those words... heartwrenching!

My favorite scene is when Firth's character tries to crash his plane and take out Fiennes.

I can honestly say I wasn't expecting that!

reply

Definitely one of my favorites as well. However, the dance scene early in the movie is up top as well. The way he looks at her is unnerving...

This. Totally.

All the best scenes from the movie are with Katherine and Almasy.
Ralph and Kristin Scott Thomas had an incredible chemistry but I felt very jealous of Kristin, I wished I was her in so many of those scenes.

I agree with all of these; however, I am brought to tears when Almasy rolls the morphine vials to Hana. Hana begins to cry when she understands what he wants and proceeds to do just that. As she reads him to 'sleep', it is very overhwelming for me. Truly a strong scene.

reply

For me I think I would have to say it is the interplay between Scott-Thomas and Fiennes in the scene when she asks him "am I "K" in your book, I think I must be".

reply

My favorite is when Hana reads Katherine's note to Almasy at the end as he drifts away. Some of the most beautiful writing to ever appear in film:
We die, we die rich with lovers and tribes, tastes we have swallowed, bodies we have entered and swum up like rivers...I know you will come and carry me out into the palace of winds. That's all I've wanted — to walk in such a place with you.

There are no words to describe the poignancy of this scene.

It was on tonight, and I decided after seeing TEP several times, to watch one scene before changing the channel.
Katherine is riding along with Laszlo and tells him he always sings. He denies this, asking the Arab assistant if he does such a thing.
I enjoy the assistant, while riding on top of the vehicle, and surely not knowing popular music of the day, responding.
He begins mimicking the basic melody while blabbering a lyric now and then while Katherine sarcastically sings along.
I love the film and found this scene tender and fun. Not many in this film.

The look on Almazy's face whenever he saw Katherine was so intense it made you feel the same intensity. Ralph Fiennes is such an amazing actor. One of my favorites.
