100 little things about Mr. Knightley

Ok, this is for all you ladies out there who are in love with Jeremy Northam's portrayal of Mr.Knightley! I LOVE Jeremy in Emma, I have seen a couple of his other movies and although he looks gorgeous and does a lovely job in all of them, Emma is by far my favorite of his movies. Now I'm the type of person who likes to watch the facial expressions of people throughout movies, and I have done just that with Jeremy and he has some of the cutest facial expressions EVER! His eyes are always smiling and I LOVE IT! Anyway, this thread is for anything about Jeremy Northam's Mr.Knightly that you just loved.
One of my favs is in the scene just after Emma talks with Jane Fairfax and Miss.Bates and is upset because she has not learned anything about Frank. She and Mr.Knightley are in a shop of some sort and Emma is complaining, watch MK's face throughout the scene! His facial expressions show so much!
Another is when MK and Emma are talking together at the ball and Emma admits to MK that she did want Mr.Elton and Harriet to marry, and he totally leans in on her! Ahg, Jeremy you drive me up a wall.

I'm also swooning over Mr. Knightley! The Jeremy one, I mean, not the Mark Strong one (many women would love Strong's Knightley... they can have him...). I really think that Jeremy's Knightley is on par with, oh wait... exceeds Firth's Darcy (for me!).

Okay, expressions. Try this:
1. When Knightley and Emma was talking in the Christmas party, and suddenly Mr. Elton just sat down between them... Jeremy's expression was too funny! And he also stifled his laughter when Mr. Elton tried to talk to Emma, though Emma was obviously did not want to.

2. When Frank Churchill and Emma sang together... Knightley's jealousy was palpable, though he tried to hide it.

3. When Emma and Knightley was in the green house, and K said that he had news and that 'I know how you love news', and Emma wittily said, 'Oh yes, I always love news!' Their interaction is so cute!

4. Another ball, and that Mrs. Elton was 'taking care' of Jane Fairfax. And then Augusta Elton barked, 'Knightley' and asked him to tell Jane how silly she was to walk in the rain. Knightley's expressions are sooo cute! I can watch the scene again and again just to see him there!

5. The ball again, where Harriet Smith did not have any partners at all... and Knightley swung over to take her to dance. He was such a genteel person there...

I just came to realise this... but I think Knightley was better than Darcy. I mean, Darcy helped tracking down Lydia... very honourable of him. But he partly did that for Elizabeth, which is of course understandable. But Knightley stood against Emma for Miss Bates (and for Emma's good as well), and he also helped Harriet without any agenda. He's more down to earth to me...

6. How he thinks his mansion is cozy. :)

7. How he's not afraid to tell you when you're wrong. "Badly done."

8. How he'll ride through the rain for the one he loves.

9. Hell, he's not your brother! "Indeed we're not." *swoon*

Post-proposal, but pre-first kiss..... Emma briefly looks down as if she's too shy to kiss him, and he has this little understanding smile, for a very brief minute....I swoon.

Eight words. "Marry me? Marry me, my wonderful, darling friend." THAT'S the proposal I want.

He uses his cane to hit the grass after Emma abruptly stops him from confessing. :D The frustration is evident.

Great post!

13. My absolute favorite part in the movie (well, okay, aside from the proposal scene) is when Emma and Mr. Knightley are playing archery and discussing Harriet's proposal from Knightley's tenant. He realizes that Emma has been meddling and he says in this low, warning tone, "Emma..."

Sigh... I love it!!

14. At one of the parties when Emma is asking Mr. Elton for a riddle, and Mr. Knightley wanders by and says something along the lines of 'you didn't ask me for a riddle.' Emma's response is classic, "Your entire personality is a riddle. I thought you overqualified." I love the exchange between the two of them!!

you have all mentioned a lot of my favourites, but i must also mention when emma, knightley and mrs weston are sitting in the garden, and mrs weston is determined he is in love with jane. his embarassment is palpable and so adorable!

I have to agree with everyone. Every scene shows something new about Mr. Knightley. I adore it when Mr. Elton seats himself between them and MK looks at Emma and he's really amused but he has too much taste to scoff or laugh at him. I have always loved Pride and Prejudice and Mr. Darcy, but now I think that Mr. Knightley is really the better man, because he improves the main character in this novel as opposed to the reverse in P&P. And oh my God when he tells her that he'd ride through worse than rain if she'd just tell him that he had a chance to win her. And then he looks down briefly like he's a shy little kid.. so cute! Or how he looks so pained to tell her that she hurt Miss Bates. However, my favorite scene is when they dance, just because of when he calls after her "Whom are you going to dance with?" and my heart melts. This is far and away one of the best romances of all time, if not the best.

I adore Northam as Knightley for many of the same reasons already posted.

PLUS...

How gorgeous is his hair? Answer - very! Don't you just want to bury your fingers in it?

He cuts a very fine figure in the costumes - the high collars, the jackets.

I love the fact that he wears his boots with every outfit instead of those little foppish shoes some of the gents have on.

I love the way he pulls the tails of his coat out of the way before he sits down.

I love the way he sort of pulls Emma behind him as he makes a lap around the dance floor to get into position for their dance and how graceful (yet still masculine) he is.

Add to favorite lines - when they're engaged in the archery practice and Emma lets a wild shot loose - "Try not to kill my dogs."

Ah I agree so much! He's just so loveable!

Something I've come across, although it could all just be in my romantic head, is when Knightley and Emma are arguing after she has been rude to Miss Bates. There are several things I find interesting during this scene. After she's turned away and he says, "Badly done...", he catches sight of her neck and can't stop looking at it! Then he looks away, sort of suddenly, like he's been caught doing something he shouldn't!

Also, during the ball scene just before this, there is such a tender moment when he looks longingly after Emma, after dancing with Harriet. Then she makes his day by appearing outside and bringing him back in!

Talking outside the ball is very very hot and heavy with sexual tension! I also love how as he comes inside to dance with her, when shes walking up the corridor, he is already holding her hand. I agree with the graceful masculine dancing! There is so much want in that dance, and as the scene closes, he reluctantly lets her go.

Ok, here ends my forever and a day analysis!

If you've ever seen the 1930 version of Pride and Prejudice with Laurence Olivier, this Mr. Knightley completely reminds me of him in the little facial expressions.

I also love Mr. Knightley's hair! OMG... it's just so... gorgeous! Hahaha. And all his costumes, of course! :)

My favorite part is at the Cole's house after Emma and Churchill have finished singing and Churchill sits her on the couch and goes to sing with Jane. Emma looks around the room and sets her eyes on Mr. Knightly (who wouldn't!) and the way he only moves his eyes to look at her...that look, oh that look!

"Whom are you going to dance with?"

reply

Aw, just everything about him is SO gorgeous! Everything. I loved the actors portrayal!!
