I liked the mini better...

The actors, the scenes and everything is much better than this movie, in the mini.
Frank is cuter, Knightly doesn't look like an old man and Emma is way cuter and better over all. The actors playing them, that is. This seemed more like a bad parody.

I say BLAH to this movie and HOORAY for the BBC mini ;)

So sue me. Or don't!

You think that Jeremy Northam looks like an old man in this movie? Wow. Just wow.

I'll agree with you on Frank though. I cannot stand Ewan McGregor in this role. But I just love Jeremy Northam. He was actually a little bit younger than the character is supposed to be. Jeremy was born in 1961, and this film came out in 1996, so he was 34 or 35 during filming.

In the new mini, Jonny Lee Miller, who plays Knightley, was 36 or 37, which is just about the same age as Mr. Knightley.

The only casting I prefer from the 1996 film is Juliet Stevenson as Mrs Elton - a little older than the character, perhaps, but she plays her so well! (And lends her voice to the best audiobook version of Emma).

Ewan McGregor is suffering from the same hairFAIL! as Mark Strong in the other 1996 adaptation - call me superficial, but I can't get past how bad both of them look, never mind how they act!

Oh yes! The Juliet Stevenson reading is awesome!
But for the mini - I couldn´t stand Romola Garai as Emma, she was too clumsy, noisy and modern - GP was really distinguished. Jonny Lee Miller was great, but he seemed a little too young for Mr. Knightley. Jeremy Northam was just perfect. I have uncertain feeling, that whoever played Harriet in the mini, was better cast than Colette, but I don´t remember well.

The girl who played Harriet in the mini series was perfect! Toni Collette was miscast.

I agree that Jeremy Northam was a better Mr. Knightly, but I like both Romola Garai and Gwyneth Paltrow as Emma. They played the character very different buy I liked both interpretations.

I really liked Juliet Stevenson too. But her character is supposed to be a real witch. Stevenson comes across as way too nice especially when compared to Paltrow's snide Emma. That should not have been the case.

McGregor's wig really was atrocious. I can't tell whether he and the costume designers were being serious or trying to lampoon the movie.

I'm with you! Northam is the epitome of what a man should be in his portrayal as Knightley. He was perfect. Drool. Besides he was supposed to be older
