I am very taken with the skill and artistry that went in to the animation of this live action film. Does anyone have any insights to share or other movies with similar demonstrations?
haha, I be a maya rival, I've touched maya, but I'm a max user :P. Often I see posts slaying CGI for not being as quirky as stop-motion, or on the other hand, sfx droolers, who like the pretty "graphics"
Yes CGI (as they wish to call it) is most definately an art, and as a child this film did inspire me to go into 3D animation. However I still keep up with flash animation and tradirional drawing and painting.
Sorry for a long reply, and a delyed one at that, but it just seems like their is someone in "IMDb.com" and not "3Dtotal.com" who appreciates this form of art.
On a technical note the artists had a tough job creating the appearance of rain across the characters skin. Also before Golem fame, Draco is the first CGI charcter I can recall with so much personality. Heh, he even does the eyebrow thing that connery does (CG folk will get this: good morph targets displayed here)
Thanks for your reply. Yes, Golem is a real bit of genius. With Golem we have another character composed into photography in a completely seamless way. The "Lord of the Rings" trilogy could not have been done without computer graphics. They tried and failed. I respect the work of traditional animators (See my review of "The Secret of NIMH"), but there is still plenty of work that just has to be done by computers.
On the other hand, I really don't like anime at all. I think it is nearly a plague. I sometimes wonder if anime drawers are working from a different visual experience, the animation is so poor compared to the traditional Disney/Warner Brothers school of thought.
