See Reign of Fire instead
That's all. Better cast, better atmosphere and better dragons.
shareThat movie was dumb. The effects were probably better, but Dragonheart is from 1996, for heaven's sake! The story is just the typical ''Uhhh evil, evil monster dragon ate my family after roasting it with it's firey breath!''
You cannot deny that the dragons (or better the only dragon) in Dragonheart were better, they had brain, they were good, they had lots of humor!
McConaughy (or however you spell that) sucked so terribly much when acting there, it was a pain to watch, he is bad caricature. Bale was a whiner ''My poor mommy, bbahaaaaaa!!!''. This movie had no such thing as atmosphere, only dumb action where a story should have been.

I don't usually reply to posts I in my infinite wisdom deem "silly" responses, but one thing you said is definitely true, it seems to me...the minute Matthew McC shows up on screen at the front gate you go "god, he looks good, lets hope when he opens his mouth hes reinvented himself in this odd role for him."
But that damn. southern. twang and mannerism pervades. That fact, and some weird plot turnoff towards the end that I can't put my finger on, threw this film.
But, no, Christian Bale was definitely the strong point in Reign of Fire.
RoF is the Equilibrium of dragon movies, you could say.
See Dragonslayer too. That was 1980 and THAT DRAGON kicks Dragonheart's dragon's ass.
Oh great, from what I can make out about Dragonslayer on imdb it is again one of these dumb and annoying evil dragon stories. Who cares about them anyway? Dragonheart had people liking the dragon.
Bale was a whiney Mr. Perfect. His character was about as deep as a puddle. Reign of the Fire was a uninspired movie that was worse than the Disney version of Narnia.

Well, that's not saying much. My personal preference aside, if you really want to insult RoF, say it's worse than Eragon.
Which it really isn't.
Oh well.
The cockroach is a noble beast....
You don't make sense purplepines, and besides I like DragonHeart and Reign of Fire, so why don't you go and hump a tree.
shareI liked Reign of Fire, but DragonHeart is better.
shareBale has always been known as a terrific actor, even when he was just a kid in Empire of The Sun. Pick on Reign of Fire all you want, it was a bad movie, but leave Bale alone. Him and Thewlis are on equal footing, at the very least, for acting ability.
shareI love dragons too much to like Reign of Fire. It was an entertaining enough film, but not as good as Dragonheart.
Ragetti: (Balancing shovel) I could join the circus!
Pintel: Mind if I shine your shoes sir?!?!
I have seen both of these movies and like them both. Reign of Fire was an action movie dealing with evil dragons and the last few humans fighting them off in order to survive. Dragonheart dealt with an evil man who was cruel, a knight who lost himself and a kind dragon, the last of his kind who just wants to live in peace. Each have totally different content, so its hard to judge them but if I had to choose I would rather watch Dragonheart any day. I think people should see both but I would prefer if people saw Dragonheart more, mainly due to the fact that dragons are normally said to be evil creatures.
