SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO nowhere near it!

Don't get me wrong, now.... I love 'Dragonheart' and think it had a lot of potential, but the cheese-factor was waaaaaaaaaaaaaay overdone, and the director must have fallen asleep in his chair. Bowen calls Kara 'Carol' and it's still 'a wrap'...? You can see Aeslynn's shadow moving around even after Einon has killed her...? I mean, wake up! Every movie has a few 'mistakes', but I have never seen so many ~obvious~ ones as I did with this particular film!

Definitive fantasy films are things like 'The Last Unicorn', 'Labyrinth', and 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy. Dragonheart's a bad*** story and all, but it's not nearly as epic as The Trilogy.

I would have to agree here. The movie was loaded with potential, but it seemed to be very poorly executed. I found David Thewlis's performance to be particularly bad. The man just didn't exude evil like he should have. He seemed more like a spoiled brat then the bane of life in his kingdom.

The special effects were very good for the time, and I found the fight choreography to be extremely well done. Long sword fighting is so out of style in movies, its a shame. They made it seem quite graceful here.

I think the main theme was extremely well composed. It probably moved me alone more than any other part of the movie. You could rip that out, and put it as the back drop to any movie, and it would fit and be uplifting.

I think the movie's rating of around 6 is well deserved. Ultimately, it just didn't feel complete, and could have been done better. Too bad, it wasn't a bad story.

I love this movie. The goofs don't make it any less good in my eyes because I love the storyline. I see where you're coming from, but I still think it should get a much higher rating. It had a awesome story, and I think it's awesome. But then again, I love dragons and movies around this time period. Well, most of them.

And, all of this being said, I would like to take this moment to claim my glory as The Biggest Dragon Nut of All the Dragon Nuts, the Once and Future Dragon Nut(s), and say that no one has been/ will ever be a bigger dragon nut than I. :) Except for MAYBE Peter Dickinson...

I loved this movie. Saw it when I was 18. I love Sean Connery as Draco. The dragon really does look like him. Yeah some of it could've been better executed, but I thought they did fine. The CGI dragons were very awesome and showed how far it had come since Jurassic Park when they coudln't show many dinosaurs because it was so expensive.

You know what this deserves? Not a higher rating, but a remake. A decent remake by a director who could do it more justice than it was given.

Yes, I'm with you Anaksunamen. Dragonheart had outstanding special effects, being a 96' film. Performances are not so bad and Sean Connery as Draco was superb. The ending even made me cry u_u when I saw it when I had 7-years old. Though, this is not an incredibly-well-done film in comparison to other movies, so its rating can't be 10, nor 6.2 as it is actually... I think an 8.6 is good enough.

AMEN to all that! This is my favorite movie of all time, because I love Dragons so much. But, even as my favorite movie, I'll admit that it isn't one of the greatest films of all time. It's just so cool, though! It's lovable! Yea, it's got a lotta goofs, but it brings out the kid in me whenever I watch it. I cried, too, when I saw it in theatres. I was 7 also. Actually, it was more like a lump in my throat. I think it deserves an 8, too. Well, it's good to see that there are no haters, at least. Just other cool ppl who love this cool movie!

YAY! Thats what I like to hear! Dragonheart is my favorite movie of all time! (*points at my user name*) as you can tell. Not only am I a dragon freak, but there was just so much meaning in the story. Chivalry is dead in this world. People would rather get a divorce than try and work out their problems. What has happened to love in this world? what has happened to a time when a man would die for the women he loved? or for his friends? Thats why I loved this movie. Draco was willing to die for his friends. Willing to pay the untilmate sacrifice so his friends could live. Is there more honor than that?

Even to this day I have not seen a better CG dragon! Even from Lord of the Rings! Sure, anyone can make a brainless dragon beast for the screen now a days, but when was the last time you saw one with personality? with character? With a soul? Only from Dragonheart can you get this. This movie should have been a 10. Flat out.

Remember,

"greater love hath no man than this, that a man layeth down his life for his friends"

Woo!

I agree it does. And you know, the goof stuff is what Draco is famous for. I like stuff with serious and goof stuff,it makes it good.
I know a lot of OTHER dragons that are goofy. GOOFY DRAGONS RULE.
I'm going to have to disagree with you other people. Anyway, the moment this thing is posted, that means I'm watching the movie right now. Really I am.

6.2 seems about fair to me. I found the movie mildly enjoyable, but it's not really one I could watch over and over. Too many of the performances were weak in my opinion (Dina Meyer and surprisingly Dennis Quaid, who I usually like) and there's a lack of an adventurous feel (plot's really a series of con jobs before they decide to rally and fight the king, felt kind of aimless for a while) but I did like the score and Sean Connery's voice acting as Draco.

"I totally agree! This movie defines fantasy films as much as Pirates of the Caribbean defines adventure movies."

Are you nuts?! I've seen this movie, it's ok, I think it should be a 6.2, but saying this movie defines fantasy films is total and utter *beep* Think about it.. I'll give you a clue. It starts with the letter L, and ends with the letter S.

reply

This movie simply rocks. It is one, if not the best fantasy film around, esspecially for how old it is!

reply

Well, I don't know about not seeing a better dragon to this day. The Hungarian Horntail in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire was amazing. But, you know, for talking dragons, Draco rocked.

And personally, I thought David Thewlis did well. He needed a different wig, yes. But when did it ever say that Einon has to be big bad evil? Seems to me as if he'd always been a little brat as a kid, and so that's what he grew up to be. Just very nasty and bratty, but not completely evil. Though then again, every time Einon dies I'm like, "Hello! There's a hot guy in a bad wig on the floor! Why are you all looking at the sky?!"

I hear there's a book, but I've never found it. Did the book come before the film, or did they just write a book based on the movie? Either way, I'd like to read it. Could anyone tell me who it's by?

I'm a Thewlisian. Ask me how.

reply

i totally agree, instead of 6. should have gotten 8.0
