king einon and kara

ok, first off, i didn't read the novel/book, i just re-watched dragonheart on sci-fi channel , it was the first time i saw it in years...

i just would like some opinions. Did King Einon really love kara?? i mean she had just attacked him with a knife. lol . yeah, sure he remembered her, but why marry her? and not for nothing but- why would einon think kara would say yes to him? i mean come on-he killed her father and it was clear that she hated him.

reply

I don't think he truly loved her.

It was about the power.
He would have raped her, probably, if his mother hadn't helped her escape.

He wanted her.
It was lust, not love.
Lust and the insane desire for power.

Actually, the book made me think he did rape her.

He did rape her in the book, but,I think he raped her in the movie too,but it just wasn't shown. I read on another website that someone said that in the scene when you see them in the chamber he's wearing cream trousers, but they cut to another scene and come back he's not wearing trousers and Kara has a different knife than she did in the first scene.

reply

Actually, the first time he talks to her about, "I owe you," and he shows her the scar in the movie, he's wearing the tunic and pants outfit thing, and then when he goes to talk to her that night, he's wearing a nightgown. But the forced kiss is nearly as bad as rape as we think of it (it's still an act of violation), especially a long time ago, and he probably thought about going all the way (and when I first saw it I seriously thought he was going to), but decided he'd get more pleasure from seeing her submit (and as a sociopath with delusions of grandeur, he didn't see any reason that wouldn't happen). Either way, he's one seriously evil dude.

reply

I dunno if it was lust or love, but something for her showed on his face when he stared at her after she accidentally stabbed him in the beginning, before he even recieved the heart. I think he loved her - for her beauty, about as much as he loves anyone else;, he says he loves her and he doesn't lie much when it comes to ambitions. Still, it's not love in the sense anyone else would see it as, since he's too selfish to really consider her...

reply

What book would that be? I tried finding a Dragonheart book, and all I could get was one dumbed down for kids to read in primary school. Could anybody please help me find the book, as I think the relationship between King Einon and Kara was underused and could have been explored more. Thanks in advance.

There's a book based on the screenplay. I found it at a yard sale once.

Follow the link.

Charles E. Pogue was the writer of the novel the movie was based on. Someone else on the board asked where they could find it since they weren't having much luck with it and were told "try Amazon". Hope it's on there so I can get it myself but I have yet to look.

There's something that I didn't get in that scene. After the part when Einon takes the knife away from Kara, she did not attack him again. She just rosed up from the bed and looked down at the floor.Did she give up or was she just weak?

reply

Anyone?

reply

Probably she couldn't attack him without the knife so was physically "weak".

reply

Perhaps so.Thanks

reply

No, I doubt he was capable of loving anyone or anything beyond himself and power. He WANTED her because she was incredibly beautiful, and he felt that as king, he was entitled to have her or whatever else he wanted.

reply

Plus she had opposed him and hated him. So, forcing her to marry him, means under the terms of the era that she would be forced to 'submit' (love, honor & obey), which I think he would turn him on. I think he really liked that she hated him and he could force her. He was that kind of nasty person.

I like your answer Lucens =)

Sorry to barge in again but there's something else I didn't understand in the bedroom scene of the 2.Kara saids "a black withered thing without pity" and Einon tells her "Then teach me.Pity me". Does anyone know what that meant?

reply

I thought he met like Teach me to love. Pity me. I've had a bad life. Everyone hates me, etc. Not sure if he really meant it though.

reply

The reason why his life was bad b/c he made it that way

reply

no he didnt really mean it. he was just trying to tempt her.

reply

Tempt? Maybe you mean seduce

reply

Exactly.

reply

I think it's more a lust/power thing for him. He thinks she'll say yes because he's under the delusion that he's incredibly sexy and that even if he's not, he's still powerful and that'll draw her in.

On a side note, if you saw it on sci-fi, go rent it on DVD right now because they cut out a lot of funny stuff on Sci-Fi. Nothing bad, just little clips to make it fit in the time slot.

reply

Dude, Einon killed her father and regardless if he's attractive, there was no chance she will join him.He is evil

reply

I know that, you know that, the whole audience knows that. But he doesn't think that way, he's a sociopath. All he thinks is that he's the sexiest thing on Earth and that she'll be attracted to his power and looks, because if the roles were reversed he would.

reply

Ok you have the point lol

reply

Einon did not love Kara. He wanted to own her. He killed her father and when she wanted revenge and failed he locked her up. He also raped her because she would not be in his room for any other reason. The book mentions that she was raped and the movie only hints at it. If he loved her he would not have treated her so. I don't think Enion could love anything but himself!

What is interesting is Kara's reaction to being raped. She acts like it was no big deal! So either she has been raped before and thinks it's nothing new or Enion seduced her and she is just going to live with what happened between them. She could be carring Enion's child...EEEE!

reply

I think 'cause she was pretty, he got excited about being opposed (it's the chase *that wouldn't have lasted and it didn't*) and MAYBE 'cause her offspring would be a strong heir.

Also yeah, 'cause he's the king. Everybody wants him.
