how Lt. Lake secures private quarters,
well.. i would gladly secure Lt lakes privates!
shareGiven that she's only one of three officers on the boat, it would've been easy to do even if she wasn't hanging a hammock in the aft torpedo room.
shareEven officers aboard a Balao did not have pvt quarters, only the captain did.
So ummm.... No. It would not have been easy.
I joined the Navy to see the world, only to discover the world is 2/3 water!
Even if the officer's quarters bunked as many as four apiece for the full ten officers a Balao was rated for, for the duration of the op in the movie they only had less than half that many officers and as such they all could take their own compartment. You can confirm at http://www.military-collections.com/pampanito1.html with the exact same ship that played the Stingray.
shareAboard a Balao class submarines, the second compartment is the Forward Battery compartment. It houses what is known as Officer country.
Standing at the rear hatch (to control room) and looking forward to the Forward Torpedo room.....
On the right:

CO's cabin

On the left:
Goat Locker... 5 senior-most enlisted Chief Petty Officers

It looked as if she was bunking alone in the aft torpedo room, which was not being used during the mission.
