Censored movie poster/dvd cover??

So, i searched for this movie on IMDB after a long time not seeing it, and the first thing i noticed is the movie poster, and dvd covers on the image section, Loc Dog is holding a fricking water pistol??? Looked over at Amazon.com, also the same picture!

Or has this been done on purpose by the Wayans or something?

I was wondering where the water gun came from. I didn't remember the original cover for it but that just didn't register with me.

I imagine someone complained about it so they changed it on subsequent releases. Or maybe they felt more money could be made with a "friendlier" cover. I wish someone who owns/owned the OG VHS would clarify.
